  History of Christmas Lights
Have you ever wondered how lights and decoration ever became a part of Christmas? Here is a little background on how lights became incorporated into Christmas.

The first ever documented Christmas tree was that was electrically lit up was around 1822 in the presence of Edward Johnson, he was a partner to the father of electricity Thomas Edison. Johnson has specially made light shaped real small and were colored in red or blue bulbs.

By the 1900’s business began manufacturing lights and setting up displays with the lights displayed in windows and on the trees. But they were very expensive and the average person could not afford them so people used candles and candle holders to decorate their windows and trees. Until around 1930, the economy was better and the lights were more affordable.

In 1895, President Cleveland was the first President in history to display an electrically lit Christmas tree in the White House. A tradition that has been carried on ever since. In 1904 in San Diego and in 1912 here in New York, were the first documented cases of Christmas lights being used on outdoor trees. Rockefeller Center had a Christmas tree since 1931 but it was not until 1956, that they used the electric lights.
Over time, people found that they liked the lights not only on their Christmas trees but also in windows and doorways. The creativity was endless.

If you drive around your neighborhood at Christmas time, you will see a whole lot of creativity that people use to decorate their lawns and houses. Every year they get bigger and better. One of the great places to buy all your party products & supplies.
